This disorder is characterized by brief attacks of deep sleep.
Narcolepsy is a sleep disorder characterized by brief attacks of deep sleep. Symptoms include excessive sleepiness, cataplexy (a sudden episode of muscle weakness accompanied by full conscious awareness, usually triggered by a strong emotion), sleep paralysis, overwhelming daytime sleepiness even after adequate nighttime sleep and an abnormal tendency to pass directly from wakefulness into REM sleep. People with narcolepsy often find it difficult to stay awake for long periods of time, regardless of the circumstances, and it can cause serious disruptions in your daily routine.
