INTEGRIS Health Paul Silverstein Burn Center

Surgery

Surgery is sometimes required for burn patients to heal. The most common surgical procedures performed are debridement (removal of non-viable tissue) and skin grafting.

Patients and families are educated about surgical procedures and preparation for the post-operative period. Specific questions are covered regarding types of anesthesia, actual surgical procedures, blood loss and replacement, donor sites, dressing and splints. Questions concerning pain and scarring are also addressed, as well as post-operative activity. A burn team member is always available to answer any questions and explain specific procedures in more detail.
