Kidney and Pancreas Transplant

Kidney Transplant Procedure

A kidney transplant involves placing a healthy kidney from a living or deceased donor into someone whose kidneys are failing.

Blood-compatible family members or unrelated individuals can donate a kidney, known as a living donor transplant.

Donors can live healthily with one kidney. Typically, recipients receive one kidney, though occasionally two from a deceased donor.

Non-functioning kidneys usually stay in place, while the new kidney is implanted in the lower abdomen.
