  • Cirrhosis with any decompensating event
    • Ascites
    • Hepatic Encephalopathy
    • Variceal bleeding
    • Spontaneous bacterial peritonitis
    • Jaundice
  • Acute Liver Failure
  • Liver Cancer
  • Non-cirrhotic Portal Hypertension
  • Hepatology:
    • Abnormal Liver Enzymes
    • Benign and/or Malignant liver lesion
    • Viral/Autoimmune/Metabolic disease

Early referral for liver transplants is highly desirable if

  • Abnormal liver function tests
  • Ascites
  • Liver mass
  • Portal hypertension
  • Encephalopathy
  • Jaundice

Relative Contraindications to Liver Transplant

  • Inability to abstain from drugs/alcohol
  • Inability to cooperate or comply with medical therapy
  • The absence of a consistent or reliable social support system
