Ankle Replacement Surgery

Ankle surgery is a surgical procedure performed to repair or reconstruct the bones, ligaments, or tendons in the ankle joint.

Whether it's an injury, degenerative disease or structural problem, the physicians and surgeons at INTEGRIS Health have the specialized training and expertise needed to accurately diagnose and effectively treat any condition of the lower extremities.

Why would you need ankle replacement surgery?

  • Fractures: If the bones in the ankle are broken, surgery may be necessary to repair the damage and restore proper function to the joint.
  • Ligament injuries: The ankle has several ligaments that help to stabilize the joint. If one of these ligaments is torn or damaged, surgery may be needed to repair or reconstruct it.
  • Tendinitis: Chronic inflammation of the tendons in the ankle can cause pain and reduced mobility. Surgery may sometimes be necessary to remove the damaged tissue and repair the tendon.
  • Arthritis: Osteoarthritis and other types of degenerative joint conditions can cause pain and stiffness in the ankle. In some cases, surgery may be necessary to remove damaged bone and cartilage or to reconstruct the joint.
  • Congenital conditions: Some people are born with abnormalities in the bones or ligaments of their ankles, which may require surgical correction to improve function and alleviate pain.

Ankle surgery is typically only recommended when other forms of treatment, such as physical therapy and medications, have not been effective in relieving symptoms and improving function.
