Our Approach to Effective Recovery

Our Approach to Effective Recovery

What Types of Therapy Are Offered at Arcadia Trails?

Individual Therapy

Individuals work one-on-one with staff to develop a road map to recovery. Individual therapy can also include different types of evidence-based therapies listed below.

Group Therapy

Knowing you aren’t alone in your journey can be empowering. Human beings naturally want to congregate, which makes group therapy a powerful therapeutic tool for treating substance use. Group therapy is successful because being a part of a group of peers leads to reduced isolation and allows members to witness the recovery of others, creating a culture of recovery.

Group therapy also helps address the problems that commonly accompany substance use, such as depression, isolation, and shame.

Evidence-Based Therapies

Our scientifically supported therapies are selected to maximize recovery effectiveness:

  • Motivation Enhancement Therapy
Motivation Enhancement Therapy (MET) has proven to be very effective for individuals who are resistant to the idea of engaging in treatment and stopping substance use. MET helps to meet our patients where they are in their substance use recovery journey and encourages and motivates them to continue in their recovery.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Since thoughts affect our well-being, changing harmful thought patterns is essential to achieving recovery. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) addresses harmful thought patterns, helps patients recognize their ability to practice alternative ways of thinking, and regulates emotions and harmful behaviors.
  • Trauma Informed Care
Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) recognizes the widespread impact of trauma and understands potential paths for recovery. Being trauma-informed involves actively seeking to avoid re-traumatization by recognizing the signs and symptoms of trauma in clients and integrating knowledge about trauma into policies, procedures and practices. This approach helps to create a safe environment for individuals to recover from substance use disorders by addressing the underlying trauma that may contribute to their addiction.
  • 12-Step Facilitation
12-Step Facilitation (TSF), is an evidence-based therapeutic approach designed specifically to promote recovery from alcohol and drug addiction. Our structured program helps individuals engage with the principles and foster acceptance of the problem, surrender to a higher power or a greater reality outside oneself, and active involvement in 12-step meetings. TSF aims to guide participants toward establishing a supportive network and committing to ongoing recovery processes through these groups.

How Do Different Therapies Impact My Recovery?

We offer an assortment of treatment modalities unprecedented in the region. These treatment therapies can be used in conjunction with each other or on their own to address addiction, mental health and trauma.

Depression, anxiety, bipolar and other mental health problems can be where the addiction began, and these feelings tend to compound the addiction. Those who suffer from mental health problems sometimes use whatever drug they can find to escape from those feelings they can’t control.

Trauma can fester, especially when not addressed, making recovery difficult or impossible. By addressing all three issues of addiction, mental health and trauma, real healing and recovery can begin.

Substance treatment comes in many different forms, from outpatient care to inpatient hospital programs to long-term therapy plans. During the course of recovery, a client may receive many levels of treatment that allow a more concentrated and personalized plan based on the client’s needs.

Additional Therapy Options

  • Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT):
Helps patients identify and modify self-defeating thoughts and feelings, promoting healthier and more productive beliefs. By challenging the rationality of negative feelings, REBT aids patients in fostering a more positive outlook and emotional well-being.
  • The Matrix Model:
This structured treatment model is specifically designed for individuals struggling with stimulant addiction, such as methamphetamine or cocaine. It integrates techniques that help patients understand the issues related to their addiction, providing support and direction from trained therapists who enhance the patient’s self-esteem and dignity during recovery.
  • Mindfulness Therapy
Focuses on cultivating self-discipline to remain present and mindful. This therapy teaches patients to slow down their mental processes and reduce future and past-focused thoughts, achieving tranquility and a more focused state of mind.
  • Behavioral Activation (BA)
A component of cognitive behavioral therapy that explores the interaction between behavior and emotion. BA is used to change behavior patterns that contribute to depression or other negative emotional states, encouraging more positive engagement and activity.
