INTEGRIS Health Cardiac Rehabilitation

A supervised cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation program includes exercise, lifestyle changes, education and emotional support for people who have had a heart attack, bypass surgery, other heart problems or lung conditions.

Programs are medically supervised and individually designed to enhance your quality of life to help you return to and maintain your best possible physical and emotional condition.

You may start a cardiac or pulmonary rehab program while you are still in the hospital, soon after leaving the hospital or at any other time to help prevent heart and lung problems. Your doctor will give you an exercise prescription that gives you and your cardiac rehab team guidelines for the frequency, duration and intensity of exercise.

Cardiac rehab has four phases; your doctor will determine which phase is best for you to start your program.

Phase I: Inpatient Program

Phase 1 takes place in the hospital after you have experienced a heart attack or other major heart problem.

  • An assessment of how well you do self-care (such as brushing teeth or hair or bathing).
  • A risk assessment, to determine your ability to participate in an exercise program.
  • Identifying which daily activities, such as lifting, you can do safely.
  • Patient and family education about lifestyle changes you need to make such as eating healthful foods and stopping cigarette smoking.
  • Performing light exercise such as walking short distances several times a day and possibly a weight-training program.

Phases II, III and IV: Outpatient Programs

The remaining three phases of your cardiac rehab take place at our cardiac rehabilitation outpatient clinic located on the INTEGRIS Health Baptist Medical Center Portland Avenue campus. This state-of-the-art exercise facility, coupled with our team of trained professionals, will help you meet your health goals. The healthier lifestyle you've learned including eating a balanced diet, exercising regularly and not smoking–can become a way of life.

Cardiac Rehabilitation Program - Outpatient

Outpatient cardiopulmonary rehabilitation is a supervised exercise and education program with progressive conditioning, heart rhythm and rate monitoring and telemetry.

The cardiac rehabilitation program will help you transition to a self-directed home program. You will be given the opportunity to improve exercise tolerance and strengthening in a safe, supervised environment while you achieve optimal functional activity level.

We also offer group and one-on-one education regarding cardiac risk factors, heart healthy eating and cardiac function.

Cardiopulmonary Rehab Program Overview

The INTEGRIS Health Outpatient Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation program is designed specifically for those recovering from a recent heart attack, bypass, coronary balloon, stent, other related heart conditions, or pulmonary conditions.

The program provides a medically supervised environment that allows increased physical activity through monitored exercise. Educational sessions provide participants information about their disease processes, risk factor reduction and recovery.

Your personal physician, who will prescribe cardiac rehab and refer you to our program, will remain your primary doctor and will receive monthly progress reports. Tell your physician you want to participate in the program. Or, we can fax the necessary paperwork to your physician.

Team members supporting you during your rehab experience include physicians, registered nurses, exercise physiologists and registered dietitians.
