We All Want To Live Well

But odds are, we will struggle with issues too significant to handle on our own through the years. Stress, anxiety, addiction, divorce, grief, illness, family problems … some days, it can seem like we will never "live well" again.

When these days come, you may need help. Knowing how to cope with life's downside doesn't always come naturally. Sometimes, the depression is too deep, the anxiety too intense, and the grief too overwhelming to handle alone. When drugs or alcohol are involved, judgment can be impaired. You can feel out of control, wondering if you'll ever get your life back.

INTEGRIS Mental Health Can Help

INTEGRIS Mental Health treatment programs will help you …

  • Understand your symptoms

  • Explore the causes of your disorder

  • Learn techniques for reducing stress and managing your responses to your illness

  • Regain positive control of your life.

Treatment Focus

INTEGRIS Mental Health Spencer focuses on patients who have concerns or needs such as:

  • Mood disorders such as major depression, bipolar disorder and postpartum depression

  • Anxiety disorders such as generalized anxiety disorder, panic attacks, obsessive-compulsive disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder

  • Schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders, hallucinations and delusions

  • Grief issues

  • Substance related and other addictive disorders

  • Emotional and mental health problems related to other medical conditions

  • Medication adjustments.

An individualized treatment program is provided for each patient. Elements of that treatment include group, individual and family counseling as well as recreational therapy.

Patient Referral

Anyone may make a referral. Most are made by physicians, mental health professionals, members of the clergy, employers, friends or family members. Often times, patients will self-refer.

Physician Relationship

The primary care physician may refer patients directly to our program and can also choose to be a part of the treatment team. All patients are assigned to the care of a board certified or board eligible psychiatrist. As needed, each patient is assigned a second physician (family doctor or specialist) whose role is to address any medical concerns while the patient is on the unit. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of treatment, we ask that questions and requests about the patient’s progress and treatment be directed to the patient’s therapist, social worker or nurse.

Family Participation

Family members are considered to be an important part of the treatment process, and each patient’s therapist will schedule family conferences and discharge planning with the family and the patient. Generally, family sessions are once a week. We recommend that all families participate in family support groups through NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness). Information on how to access these groups can be found at www.namioklahoma.org or by calling them at 405-230-1900.

Insurance Coverage

INTEGRIS Mental Health is contacted with Medicare, Medicaid and most private insurances. Typically these payors will cover both hospital and physician charges. Standard deductibles and co-insurance may apply. Our hospital business office will be happy to assist you with the financial arrangements.

Assessment and Admission

Prior to admission to our program, patients must be evaluated and medically cleared through an emergency department. If medically cleared, the initial assessment is conducted by a licensed mental health professional. If deemed to meet criteria for inpatient hospitalization, the patient will be admitted to the unit by the INTEGRIS Mental Health staff psychiatrist.

Services Provided

We offer comprehensive care that addresses each individual’s specific needs. Our multi-disciplinary treatment team consists of psychiatrists; primary care physicians (as needed), licensed mental health professionals, social workers, RNs, LPNs, dietitians and recreational therapists.

  • Patient progress reports are provided to referral sources via phone, fax or mail upon request and as consented to by the patient.

  • Family involvement occurs in discharge planning and in therapy sessions.

  • Individual and group therapies are tailored to each patient’s functioning level.

  • Outpatient follow-up is arranged prior to discharge of all patients.

  • Behavioral management plans are sent to referral sources at discharge for those with behavior problems discharging to another care setting.

  • Pre-admission assessments can be done anytime.

  • 24-hour licensed nursing staff includes registered nurses on duty during all shifts.

  • A licensed mental health professional is on-call each weekend and available for assessments and admissions through our INTEGRIS Emergency Departments.

  • Our referral assistance/placement program enables us to accommodate patients if our unit is at capacity or if the patient does not meet admission criteria.

TELL YOUR PHYSICIAN IF …

  • you have trouble functioning

  • you can’t think straight or make decisions

  • you’ve gained or lost weight as a result of your situation

  • you have trouble sleeping or you sleep too much

  • you’re using drugs or alcohol to cope

  • you’re angry or sad almost all of the time

  • you’ve limited where you go or what you do

  • you experience sudden mental or behavioral changes

  • you don’t enjoy life.

Family physicians and other primary care providers are often the first to recognize the symptoms of stress overload, anxiety disorders, depression and substance abuse. An estimated seven out of 10 office visits are for stress or anxiety-related complaints.

Patients at particular risk include those who have …

  • experienced significant trauma (accidents, violence)

  • been diagnosed with a chronic illness or have chronic pain

  • had a recent significant health challenge (heart surgery, cancer)

  • experienced major life changes (death, divorce, family or financial difficulties)

  • symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, insomnia, aches or pains

  • headaches, muscle tension, lethargy/fatigue with no readily identifiable underlying medical condition.

Left untreated, these conditions not only affect the patient’s quality of life, but also can significantly impact a patient’s physical health.

At INTEGRIS Mental Health we believe that we all want to live well. Life is challenging. INTEGRIS Mental Health can help.

Important and Helpful Information for Patients and Visitors

Visiting Hours
Saturday and Sunday: 3:15 - 4:15 p .m.

Because we value patient confidentiality, unit doors are kept locked and visitors are required to sign in. There is a two visitor limit per patient during visiting hours and children younger than age 14 are not allowed. Purses, cell phones, cameras and weapons are not permitted on the unit during visitation and scheduled family meetings. Please make arrangements to secure these items prior to visitation – you will not be permitted on the unit with any of these items.

Phone Use and Emergency Messages
Patients may use the phone between therapy sessions until 10 p.m. Calls can be made and received at several patient phones throughout the unit and assistance is available if needed. Loved ones can be reached by calling the Adult Unit at 405-427-4740 and requesting transfer to one of the patient phones. To protect the privacy of our patients, you will be required to provide a patient code when calling.

Personal Items
Patients are welcome to bring personal items; however, some belongings may be kept at the nurses’ station for safety. We encourage patients to leave jewelry and items of value at home as we cannot be responsible for lost or stolen personal items.

All clothing and personal items are checked in and labeled at the time of admission. Please notify the staff of these items: eye glasses, contact lenses, dentures, hearing aids and prostheses.

Clothing
Patients are provided a pair of scrubs to wear for the first 24 hours of their stay. Beyond that, patients may choose to wear their own clothing. We suggest enough clothes for three days and nights. We launder the clothing on the unit daily or families can choose to launder at home. Please bring clothing that does not have strings, laces, belts or long straps or metal embellishments as these are not permitted on the unit for the safety of all of our patients.
