INTEGRIS Cancer Institute Provides Garden Party in a Bag

national cancer survivors day garden party, butterflyNational Cancer Survivors Day® is Sunday, June 5. This year’s annual celebration of life will be recognized in hundreds of communities worldwide.

The awareness day is meant to celebrate cancer survivors and show those currently battling the disease that life after a cancer diagnosis can be meaningful, productive and inspiring. Events usually consist of large gatherings of families, caregivers, friends and health care professionals, but this year because of the continued threat of COVID-19 on this particular population, organizers had to get creative.

The INTEGRIS Health Cancer Institute is encouraging its patients to commemorate the special day safely at home with a “garden party in a bag” provided by the Troy and Dollie Smith Wellness Center. The burlap bags will contain seed packets, a hand size garden trowel, a t-shirt, a pot with soil, instructions for planting and education material of the significance of the monarch butterfly and National Cancer Survivors Day.

Cancer survivors can schedule to pick up their Celebration of Life garden party bags by calling Jackie Cox at 405-773-6600. Participants will also have the opportunity to create painted “handprint flowers” at the pick-up stations at both facility locations and are encouraged to take pictures at their home celebrations to share with the INTEGRIS Cancer Institute to include on social media at the INTEGRIS Cancer Institute’s Facebook page.
