Teen Stroke Survivor Gets Special Visit from His Wrestling Idols

Luke Champion, a 14-year-old boy who suffered a stroke after winning a wrestling match during a camp at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, is receiving therapy at the INTEGRIS Health Jim Thorpe Rehabilitation outpatient clinic in Yukon.

He got a special treat recently when several members of the OSU wrestling team showed up to pay him a visit. See the memorable moment below.

 

The eighth-grader is sharing his story to educate the public on the signs and symptoms of stroke.

Stroke is the fifth leading cause of death in the U.S. and the leading cause of disability around the world. Alarmingly, rates among young people are increasing. According to the American Heart Association, 80% of strokes can be prevented through healthy lifestyle choices such as diet, exercise and not using tobacco.

But Luke is proof that no one is immune to stroke, and why it is so important to act fast if you suspect someone is having a stroke.
