INTEGRIS Health Wearing Red to Celebrate Heart Month

Today, Feb. 7, millions of people across the country are wearing red for a common goal: to raise awareness about cardiovascular disease in women and help save lives. INTEGRIS Health caregivers were happy to participate, show their support and help stand against this deadly disease.

Cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer of women, causing 1 in 3 deaths each year and can affect a person at any age. It kills more women than all forms of cancer combined and yet most women don’t recognize that cardiovascular disease is their greatest health threat.

"As a cardiologist, I see firsthand the impact heart disease has on individuals and families. The Go Red movement raises awareness about the importance of heart health, especially for women who are often overlooked in heart disease research. During Heart Month, we not only emphasize prevention but want individuals to take control of their heart health through education, lifestyle changes and early detection,” says Aleicia Mack, D.O., a cardiologist at INTEGRIS Health Heart Hospital.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in our state and INTEGRIS Health is committed to partnering with Oklahomans to combat their risks.

The newly constructed INTEGRIS Health Heart Hospital is Oklahoma's largest and most comprehensive heart center, providing services including heart scans, cardiac catheterization, open heart surgery and heart transplantation for patients from across Oklahoma and the surrounding region.

Heart Scans Save Lives: A heart scan is a noninvasive imaging test that measures the amount of calcium in the walls of your coronary arteries. A good coronary calcium score is zero, which indicates no calcium deposits in the heart. A lower score generally means a lower risk of heart disease.
