“I think probably within 45 minutes, they had run four different tests on her and it was within that time frame that they had diagnosed what the problem was and were beginning treatment for it,” Kenny remembers. “The fact that they pinpointed it so quickly and treated it so quickly, I mean that’s what made the difference."
James Lunsford, D.O., is an emergency medicine specialist who cared for Amy that night. “Mrs. Mossman was diagnosed with a deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and multiple bilateral pulmonary embolisms (PEs), accompanied by a significant clot burden in both lungs. She was quickly diagnosed, started on a heparin drip for treatment and was admitted to the hospital for further monitoring.” He adds, “She had an excellent response to the recommended therapy and was discharged within three days. No doubt, these are the outcomes we like to see for all emergency department patients.”
“It was scary for sure,” admits Amy. “But once we got there, I was not scared at all. That’s what you want in an ER.”
Kenny is the pastor of the First Baptist Church in Carnegie. He whole heartedly agrees. “This was life altering for us. We’re obviously very, very thankful and we recognize that we were in the hands of very capable professionals on that night and we just couldn’t be more grateful.”
