Because we have a strong applicant pool, we carefully examine each application. Over the years we've found that USMLE or COMLEX scores and class rank offer limited information. We learn much more about our applicants from their personal statements and letters of recommendation, as we look for life experience, evidence of good interpersonal skills, and a commitment to the ideals of family medicine. Finally, the personal interview gives us an opportunity to get a feel for the applicant as a whole person, not a collection of data.

In order to begin residency training, applicants must have passed USMLE Step 1, Step 2 CK, and Step 2 CS (COMLEX Level 1, Level 2 CE, and Level 2 PE for osteopathic applicants). We strongly recommend that applicants take these examinations early enough for results to be available by mid-February, when we submit our rank order list.
Applicants from medical schools on the Medical Board of California list of disapproved schools will not be considered for interviews.
Please send any application inquiries through ERAS. Due to the high volume of applicants, please do not call or stop by the office for inquires.
