In celebration of National Sleep Awareness Month this March, INTEGRIS Health is highlighting the importance of sleep for overall health and wellness. Adequate sleep is one of the cornerstones of a healthy lifestyle. Yet, millions of individuals struggle with sleep disorders, putting their health at risk.

Sleep is not just about feeling rested — it plays a crucial role in immune function, memory and mental clarity, mood regulation, emotional well-being and disease prevention. Unfortunately, millions of people suffer from sleep disorders, including insomnia, sleep apnea and restless leg syndrome, which can seriously affect their health.

This National Sleep Awareness Month, INTEGRIS Health is encouraging everyone to take sleep seriously. Whether you're simply looking to improve your sleep hygiene or need professional help with a sleep disorder, there are steps you can take today to start feeling better tomorrow.

Key Ways to Improve Your Sleep:

  • Stick to a consistent sleep schedule: Go to bed and wake up at the same time every day, even on weekends, to regulate your sleep cycle.
  • Create a sleep-friendly environment: Keep your bedroom dark, quiet and cool. Limit screen time before bed and avoid heavy meals or caffeine late in the day.
  • Understand and treat sleep disorders: If you're struggling with sleep, it could be a sign of a disorder like sleep apnea. Our sleep specialists are here to help you find the right treatment.

“We often overlook the importance of good sleep,” said Viral Doshi, M.D., medical director of sleep medicine at INTEGRIS Health Medical Group Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine. “However, quality sleep is essential for overall health. If you're struggling with sleep, we want to encourage you to take action this month. There’s help available and the sooner we address sleep issues, the better your health will be.”

Take Action for Your Sleep Health:

  • A sleep study is the most accurate way to diagnose most sleep disorders. It involves monitoring many aspects of your sleep for the entire night.
  • Because sleep is such a complex process, our board certified sleep specialists and registered sleep technologists at the INTEGRIS Health Sleep Disorders Center of Oklahoma are here to help to monitor your sleep including your brain activity, heart rate, oxygen level and breathing pattern.
