Anesthesiology Residency Program

The Anesthesiology Clinical Base Year Residents (PGY-1) rotate at INTEGRIS Baptist Medical Center under a contract between the University of Oklahoma and INTEGRIS Baptist Medical Center. This contract covers only training at INTEGRIS Health Baptist Medical Center.

Some of the Educational Goals of the Clinical Base Year include the following:

  1. To provide an environment where PGY-1 physicians may obtain a basic knowledge of the major medical disciplines upon which to later build knowledge and skills specifically related to anesthesiology.
  2. To provide exposure to the interactions of medicine with and the effects on medicine of the larger society by presentations and seminar-style discussions. Topic examples include
    • Introduction to the healthcare system
    • Legal Issues in Medicine: DNR, HIPAA, EMTALA,
    • Appropriate utilization of services and costs of care
    • Payment systems
    • Case management and social services
  3. To provide exposure to the following fields of medicine as defined in the Program Requirements for Graduate Medical Education in Anesthesiology by the Review Committee for Anesthesiology of the ACGME:
    • Internal Medicine
    • Emergency Medicine
    • Pediatrics
    • Surgical Subspecialties
    • Critical Care Medicine
    • Neurology
    • Family Medicine
  4. To provide specific rotations in the fields of medicine listed below. Learning experiences during the rotations include various combinations of direct patient care, consultation opportunities, lectures, directed and self-directed readings
    • General Internal Medicine
    • Pulmonology
    • Cardiology
    • Nephrology
    • Critical Care Medicine
    • Emergency Medicine
    • General Surgery and/or Surgical Subspecialties
    • Pediatrics
  5. To provide opportunities for exposure to the processes of quality improvement as they relate to the health care system and effect the management of individual patients
  6. To provide opportunities to learn to work with colleagues in an environment that fosters team development and growing mutual support.
