INTEGRIS Health Southwest Medical Center is home to one of the busiest emergency departments in Oklahoma, treating more than 82,000 patients annually and that number keeps climbing. As an unopposed residency, our residents run all codes and perform every EM procedure the hospital sees.
That high volume and high acuity are matched by an equally strong academic program. Each year, our residents present at multiple national conferences, lead quality improvement projects that change patient care, and consistently rank as high performers on the in-training exam.
Our department includes 26 acute care beds, including three resuscitation bays, plus eight observation beds. We're a Level III trauma center, taking all Level III trauma in the area on a rotating basis, and a certified stroke center. The Department of Emergency Medicine was also recently honored with a VHA Center of Excellence award for throughput time. Simply put: train with us, and you can work anywhere.

Rotation and observation application process
INTEGRIS Health Southwest Medical Center emergency medicine clerkship offers a unique, fast-paced learning environment with high acuity and patient volume. While on shift, medical students have the opportunity to interact with residents of various levels of training as well as directly with teaching faculty. As the only training program based at INTEGRIS Health Southwest Medical Center, rotators work alongside emergency medicine residents and all EM-boarded faculty. Staffing ratios provide for numerous interactions with residents and a variety of faculty. During clerkship rotations, students have opportunities to assist with several procedures and often perform supervised procedures themselves.

Educational goals of the program
The INTEGRIS Health Emergency Medicine Residency Program aims to train physicians to practice state-of-the-art emergency medicine compassionately and scholarly.
The training experience will include increasing responsibility for complex medical conditions with the expectation that the resident will, by completing the program, be able to provide competent and complete emergency patient care.
Graduates of this program are expected to be qualified and eligible to sit for the certification examination in Emergency Medicine provided by the American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine (AOBEM) and by the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM).
