5 East is a 36-bed med-surg/intermediate care unit. We care for adult patients 18 and older. We treat a patient population that can have a variety of diagnoses covering multiple systems of the body.
The greatest perk for working in our unit is that we are not a designated specialty floor. This means that you develop a wide range of nursing knowledge and skills that allow us to care for patients on our fast paced, high acuity unit. This allows for a solid nursing foundation to be built, as well as continuous learning and growing as a nurse.
To provide the most comprehensive care for our patients, we utilize a multidisciplinary approach to patient care that encourages teamwork between physicians, nursing staff, therapy staff, social work, and a variety of other consulting disciplines.
The environment on our floor is friendly. We pride ourselves on working as a team. This healthy work environment allows our staff to thrive and grow both personally and professionally.
We orient new nurses over a 12 week period with a dedicated preceptor. Significant time attention is given so that they can be successful as they apply their nursing skills.
