We are a 12-bed ICU that specializes in adult neurovascular critical care.
Welcome to 601. We are the Neurovascular Intensive Care Unit located on the 6th Floor, in the north wing of the INTEGRIS Health Baptist Medical Center Northwest Expressway Campus.
We are a 12-bed ICU that specializes in adult neurovascular critical care. Our unit is made up of nurses, nurse techs, neurointensivists, respiratory therapists, and a pharmacist. We care for a wide range of ailments that include (but are not limited to) hemorrhagic and ischemic strokes, post-TPA administration, post-endovascular therapy treatment, seizures, brain tumors, neuromuscular disorders, and traumatic brain injuries. Our unit will also take patients that deal with respiratory failure, sepsis, and other issues not related to neurological damage.
We share responsibility with 901 coronary ICU in responding to inpatient code strokes and are a part of the Comprehensive Stroke Center Certification held by INTEGRIS Health Baptist Medical Center. Several of our nurses have been celebrated with the Daisy award for the excellent and compassionate care we give to our patients. We have representation on the Council of Nursing Excellence and have our own UBC that helps determine and implement changes needed on the unit. Each nurse must carry the National Institute of Health Stroke Scale certification and be deemed competent in the Nursing Bedside Swallow assessment.
The culture in 601 is built on teamwork, compassion, and patient/family-centered care. Everyone here will always lend a helping hand and doesn’t believe the rule of “that’s not my patient.” We take ownership of our nursing responsibility as a group and understand that ALL patient care is our responsibility, regardless of which patient it is.
