Welcome to Pre-admission Testing (PAT)! We are located on the 1st floor of INTEGRIS Health Baptist Medical Center
The PAT department helps prepare patients undergoing surgical procedures at the Baptist Main campus, Medical Plaza Surgery Center, and Portland campus. PAT visits are conducted in the clinic and via pre-op phone calls depending on the patient’s age, comorbidities, and type of surgery they are having. We see patients in multiple specialties including general surgery, orthopedic surgery, neuro/spine surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, advanced endoscopy, and interventional radiology.
The environment on our unit can be fast-paced and we are focused on collaboration. One perk of working in PAT is the diversity of our patients. We use our nursing skills to get a detailed medical history, physical assessment, and testing such as lab work, EKG, and pulmonary studies for our patients prior to undergoing any surgical procedure. We also address any concerns patients may have before their surgery. Another perk of working on our unit is the opportunity to work with a team of nurses who pride themselves on teamwork and consider our unit a family.
We orient new nurses to our unit by providing an extensive specialized orientation period dependent on the candidates learning style and speed. We encourage professional growth and promote nursing development beyond the traditional bedside care model.
Our nurses work as part of a multidisciplinary team and utilize collaborative teamwork. We work closely with the surgeon, anesthesia staff, and surgical department to accommodate all our patients’ needs. Patient safety is our goal, and we help prepare patients for positive surgical outcomes.
