Pulmonary Medical Surgical ICU (701)

Pulmonary Medical Surgical ICU (701)

Hi and welcome to 701!

My name is Stepheny Rogers, BSN, RN, CCRN, and I am the manager of the Pulmonary Medical-Surgical ICU. Our 12-bed unit is located on the 7th floor of the Main Campus tower at INTEGRIS Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City.

We care for critically ill adult patients being treated primarily for Acute Respiratory Failure, Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS), Multi System Organ Failure, Sepsis, Drug Toxicity, Gastrointestinal bleeds, Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA), Acute/Chronic Renal Failure, and Liver Failure/Cirrhosis. During the COVID-19 pandemic, 701 has functioned as the hospital's primary COVID ICU since we specialize in pulmonary disease. Our vast patient population fosters a true learning environment for nurses of any experience level. Caring for such a diverse patient population promotes critical thinking and fine-tunes critical care skillsets invaluable to any Intensive Care Unit.

When caregivers were asked what makes 701 stand out from the other units, the undeniable answer was the level of teamwork and friendship established within our unit. We pride ourselves on the mindfulness that no one is a stranger and we give better care together as a team. We encourage staff to participate in Shared Governance and other organizations that emphasize professional development and ultimately improve patient outcomes.

New nurses and nurse residents are given a 12 to 16-week orientation to our unit with a primary preceptor. Orientees meet with their preceptors throughout each shift for feedback and critical thinking activities. Furthermore, nurse residents are enrolled in a variety of classes during their onboarding process and have access to numerous online educational resources to optimize their knowledge base and aid in their professional success. Our goal is to mentor our nurses to become strong and confident in their field while always leading with a compassionate heart. Our mission is to inspire caregivers to provide the best quality of care to our patients that they would also expect for their loved ones.
