Trauma ICU 6 West

Thank you for your interest in becoming part of the NEW INTEGRIS Health Baptist Trauma Team! We are excited to change the landscape for trauma care in the OKC metro, region, and state. We are working towards becoming a Level II American College of Surgeons (ACS) verified trauma center. We will be taking care of all levels of trauma patients with the same standard of care that you might find at a Level I Trauma Center. Trauma nurses at Integris Health will have the opportunity to care for patients from all over the state of Oklahoma who have experienced a traumatic injury(s).

Our tentative go live to begin taking trauma patients at IHBMC is January 2025. Our trauma service line will consist of a Trauma ED, Trauma ICU and a Trauma MS/IMC Unit. The inpatient trauma service line will be located on the 6th floor of IHBMC. 6 West Trauma ICU (TICU) is a state of the art 16-bed ICU that will provide an excellent space to care for our most critically injured trauma patients. The TICU will receive critical patients directly from both the Trauma ED and the operating room. The TICU will also have a dedicated resuscitation room available for the most unstable trauma patients. Trauma ICU will feature 1:2 nurse to patient ratios.

The trauma service line at IHBMC is brand new and will provide exposure to a large variety of patients with a mechanism and injury along with any existing co-morbidities. Trauma patients at every level of care are high acuity and require complex specialized care from trained caregivers. The trauma service line is unique in that our attending trauma surgeons care for our patients at all levels of care from the emergency department to discharge. Trauma will also have a dedicated team of advanced practitioners to ensure quality care for our patients 24/7.

On 6 West TICU caregivers will learn to care for everything from internal organ lacerations to rib fractures and musculoskeletal injuries and more. Many trauma patients have surgical care elements along with physical, occupational and speech rehabilitation. Trauma caregivers will become skilled in pain management, recognition of hemorrhage, cognitive evaluations, spinal cord injury care, traumatic brain injury progression, fractures and post-surgical care. Trauma caregivers on 6 West TICU will also have exposure to medical devices such as ventilators, trachs, wound vacs, chest tubes, drains, multiple orthotic braces, skeletal traction and external fixation devices.

6 West TICU is an excellent place for caregivers seeking a fast paced, complex nursing care unit. Both new graduates and experienced nurses can learn and grow their trauma careers on 6 West TICU at IBMC. Trauma nurses at Integris Health will be supported with educational opportunities and have access to evidence-based practice guidelines to ensure they are able to provide the best care possible.
