Why I chose ISMC: I chose ISMC because I knew I would receive top-notch training. As a medical student, I was very impressed with both the residents and the attendings with whom I worked, as well as the amount of pathology I saw in my one month rotation. I believe the high volume and high acuity of the ED at Southwest played a large role in the competency levels of the residents at this program when compared to residents at other programs. I found being a part of an unopposed residency program, where the ED residents do all of the procedures and run all of the codes throughout the hospital, was also something unique to ISMC that was attractive to me when looking at places to potentially train. I have no doubt that after four years of training in this program, I will be prepared for any environment or situation I may encounter as an emergency medicine physician.

The attendings were well-read and up-to-date on the most recent advances in emergency medicine and I could tell that they held the residents to the same very high standards. In the end, I would definitely choose this program again for all of the above reasons and more.
