Our tentative go live to begin taking trauma patients at IBMC is January 2025. Our trauma service line will consist of a Trauma ED/Bay, Trauma ICU and a Trauma MS/IMC Unit. All of our inpatient traumas will be located on the 6th floor of IBMC. 6 East is a large 36 bed, ortho friendly medical surgical/intermediate care combination space that will be set up to provide care for our more moderately injured trauma patients.
The trauma service line at IBMC is brand new and will provide exposure to a large variety of patients with a mechanism and injury along with any existing co-morbidities. Trauma patients at every level of care are high acuity and require complex specialized care from trained caregivers. The trauma service line is unique in that our attending trauma surgeons care for our patients at all levels of care from the emergency department to discharge. Trauma will also have a dedicated team of advanced practitioners to ensure quality care for our patients 24/7.
On 6 East Trauma caregivers will learn to care for everything from internal organ lacerations to rib fractures and musculoskeletal injuries and more. Many trauma patients have surgical care elements along with physical, occupational and speech rehabilitation. Trauma caregivers will become skilled in pain management, recognition of hemorrhage, cognitive evaluations, spinal cord injury care, traumatic brain injury progression, fractures and post-surgical care. Trauma caregivers on 6 east will also have exposure to medical devices such as trachs, wound vacs, chest tubes, drains, multiple orthotic braces, skeletal traction and external fixation devices.
6 East Trauma is an excellent place for caregivers seeking a fast paced, complex care unit. Both new graduates and experienced nurses can learn and grow their trauma careers on 6 East Trauma at IBMC. Trauma nurses at Integris Health will be supported with educational opportunities and have access to evidence-based practice guidelines to ensure they are able to provide the best care possible.
