My daughter had a preemie born at 36 weeks that aspirated amniotic fluid. She was emergently transferred to the NICU at INTEGRIS Baptist. After settling into the unit, Tina paid such close attention to her. She even remembered the details. She was so diligent. We definitely see why INTEGRIS was able to obtain Magnet status! We were literally walked through goals for discharge and each daily goal. She was very thorough and proficient. She demonstrated her skill and experience so well. She was quick to answer questions and reassure us. She made us so comfortable with all of the lines that come with a NICU baby. We are so thankful for the blessing that INTEGRIS has been, from helping us find a place to stay to ensuring we had everything needed for discharge. Yours is a ministry of care and love, not just to the patients but also to the family.
My 57-year-old husband went in for low back surgery. It was going to be an overnight stay. C was not doing well with uncontrolled pain and muscle spasms. Alix came in to greet C with a smile and a positive attitude. He quickly checked the pain pump controls and looked on the MAR for a muscle relaxer. He placed a cryo pack on the back and looked at his JP drain to see if it was working correctly. Alix's concern was for C's comfort and emotional support. Covid has its own problems with only one support system. Each day, Alix arrived, his skill and knowledge were evident. After achieving pain control, O2 saturations went into the low 80s and blood pressure dropped low. Again, Alix acted quickly making sure fluids were going and O2 applied. He also put C in the correct position. Alix called the doctor and continued to monitor his condition. Alix's skill, passion and tireless devotion made a super impression. Alix as a nurse went beyond the normal duties in kindness and knowledge to care for C. Today, over four days later, we are going home. For the special nurses and doctors, we say "Thank You" – especially to Alix for his willing efforts and knowledge to help our family member.
Jennie is an amazing person who goes above and beyond her job description and role. She truly implements the INTEGRIS values of Love, Learn and Lead. Although Jennie excels in her role as a clinical educator, she has also been an amazing support to the Child Life Department.
In a tough time where hours have been decreased and our team only has one person working each day, Jennie has graciously helped out in bereavement situations. It is difficult to do hand and footprints on your own, and without a full Child Life team to assist in bereavements, I have had to reach out to others to help in these tragic situations. Jennie has stepped up and graciously assists in creating memory items of their loved ones for families to take home. She didn't have to help, as she has multiple tasks to achieve each day, but she has literally stopped what she is doing to help me create a perfect memory item. Without this assistance, it is very difficult to achieve the quality level of care and memory items that we all want patients and families to experience.
I am just so grateful and thankful to have a co-worker like Jennie who doesn't hesitate to lend a helping hand, even in the midst of her own busy day. Jennie is an example to others, and I know my entire staff is grateful for Jennie. We have all been blessed with her kindness, passion and caring nature, which is also easy to see in her interactions with patients and families. It takes a very special person to not only help with bereavements but to do this on top of typical daily work. This type of work ethic and compassion is why I think Jennie embodies what it means to be a DAISY Award Nurse.
Aaron showed compassion and concern from the moment he became my nurse. He answered all of my questions and the many questions my mother had as well. I was admitted for an illness after abdominal surgery. My biggest fear was having a bowel obstruction and having an NG tube. Aaron heard me crying, came in and sat down with me. He explained that there are often storms in life but there are always brighter days ahead. He didn't know that I am also going through a painful divorce. When I shared that with him, he reminded me that what I'm going through is not a reflection of me at all. He reminded me that I would get through it. While I didn't have an obstruction, I did have an NG tube. Aaron comforted me through my fear and helped me to be as comfortable as I could. Each day, Aaron reminded me to not give up. He would always come in with a cheery attitude, encouraging me that I could get through this. He would joke with me, make me feel like a human being because I didn't feel like one anymore. I had some amazing nurses but Aaron takes the cake. No matter how busy he was, he helped me with what I needed. He went above and beyond the call of duty. He made my horrible health situation manageable. I am eternally grateful for Aaron and will never forget his kindness. I hope other patients are as blessed as I have been to have been cared for by Aaron.
I have been in the hospital for two weeks. Since the first day I met Mr. Book he has shown empathy for his patients and for me. He has shown himself to truly care about how I am feeling. He would bring my medications on time. Watching Mr. Book was an inspiration. Watching him teach his students how to do things safely when administering meds, questions to ask the patients, how to give patients the best care possible truly made me think back to why I wanted to finish nursing school. It was nurses like Mr. Book who made me want to become a great nurse. I honestly feel blessed that I had the opportunity to meet and be assigned such an amazing, caring and wonderful nurse. Aaron Book deserves this recognition more than any nurse I have known, met or come in contact with in the 36 years of being in and out of the hospital. Mr. Book shows he is a nurse that loves and cares about people, patients and his job!
Lynn has caught the little things that could be huge if missed. She has taken such good care of my brother that when I have to go home, I don't worry and know he is taken care of. This is the first time I have not had to advocate and follow behind the people taking care of my brother. You can tell she is dedicated to making sure her patients are taken care of and get better. She truly cares about her patients and their family members.
Tyler is a very caring and nurturing nurse! She treated me with the utmost dignity and respect. She constantly made me feel comfortable and cared for. I feel I had top medical care while she was my nurse. I was nervous about using the bed pan and making a mess. Tyler took the time to find a way to make this a more comfortable process. I’m impressed with the compassion and outstanding care Tyler provided during my stay. She has her own brand of awesomeness! This hospital and staff are amazing!
Tiffany was so wonderful and compassionate with our dad after his kidney transplant. She took great care but most importantly she listened to my concern about my dad's state and called the doctors on his behalf. She is a true patient advocate and she worked so hard all the days she was his nurse. She was personable and professional. We are nurses as well and watched her care and love our dad like he was her own. This could never repay her for her sacrifice. Her love is not unnoticed, and we pray 10,000 fold for her and her family. Tiffany, you are amazing, kind, smart, educated, compassionate, a rock, a soldier, and a patient advocate sent from heaven. God bless you! Thank you so much!
I have Addison's disease and not very many people know about the disease and the effect it has on the adrenal and pituitary system. She listened to everything I needed at home and got me everything to have to the supply at hand. My blood sugar will go from the normal range to the lower teens in a matter of seconds. She understood that and was a great advocate for me in order to receive the care I needed without going into a coma. She's one of the many assets that are needed for your company. I did speak to the nurse manager in order to create a guide from start to finish that I'm working on with another hospital in order to better educate your nurses after I was told I had 45 minutes before anyone could help me when I've only got about 10 minutes before going into a coma. Had it not been for Courtlynn really paying attention and getting the things I needed I wouldn't have made it out of this adrenal crisis. She resolved my crisis in less than eight minutes.
For the delivery of my first baby, Melissa was the nurse who talked me through my pushing. I was very scared to deliver and in a lot of pain! Melissa was very informative and made my son's birth a breeze! She made me feel comfortable and made it easy for me to feel confident and brave to push! She was amazing and I couldn't have asked for a better nurse to be the one talking me through pushing my baby out!
When I was dilated to a 9, my baby was facing the wrong way and Melissa knew exactly what to do to help me turn him the right way! She also made me at ease and relaxed before my final pushes! I was in labor 20 hours and once I started pushing, it only took me 26 minutes to push out my son! This was definitely an experience of a lifetime! I will never forget this special event and I will never forget how special Melissa made it for me!
Katherine has consistently gone beyond and above in caring for our patients. She has spent as much time as needed helping the family understand everything going on. Additionally, Katherine spent time coordinating a translator and looking for materials for our family that speaks Korean. Katherine made sure she coordinated communication from the physicians so we understood the severity of the issues at hand. While we know Katherine had other patients, you would never know it. You all have complete joy and professionalism in Katherine. She is someone we would always want to treat our family, and any other medical professional can learn from Katherine and her actions.
My husband received a left ventricular assist device. Jessica was our first contact and trained me on driveline care. She was thorough, patient, funny and kind, along with being over-the-top enthusiastic but also very honest about the process. During a weekly assessment call, it was Jessica's gut feeling that brought us back to the hospital where a leaky valve was discovered. Surgery followed with complications and he passed. Jessica was the first to be open and honest about his outcome and I'm forever grateful for her honesty and compassion.
David is superb. All your staff are pleasant and kind and good, but I am a psych patient. Unfortunately, I am a pretty severe case. I am on disability due to the mental illness that struck me in my 30s.
I kept having anxiety attacks after the third, fourth and fifth days. David observed them and told me he had once shared the unwelcome experience after getting trapped in a cave scuba diving and then trapped in an elevator. He was so understanding and talked to me about my life and what happened. He came to my room three or four times when he could just chat. That was a true expression of having a heart of gold besides being a great, calm nurse. He went out of his way to ease my stay, and I know he squeezed me in between his patient care. Keep him! Absolutely wonderful man and nurse.
My husband was transported over for a splenectomy. We were put in the only room open in the burn unit. My husband does not have any platelets and suffers from ITP. His blood pressure began to bottom out (59/37) and he began to pass out. Skylar, the nurse, kept her calm and called the nurse back up. She also knew when to call in the rapid response team for more help. Because she was so attentive and aware, my husband received the best care needed. He was moved to the ICU until surgery. We appreciate her professionalism when things were crazy and her kindness during the episode. This young lady is a rock star! Glad she was there with us.
Meredith was my nurse on the night shift when I had to have a blood transfusion. It was especially stressful because the transfusion lasted a long time and because of the IV, I wasn't able to hold my baby because it stopped the transfusion every time I bent my arm.
Meredith was on her first day back from maternity leave (which I am currently experiencing today so I know how hard that is), but she was so kind and compassionate. She reassured me, she held my baby when I couldn't, she placed my baby next to me and sat with me to make sure the baby was safe and so I could be close to her during the transfusion. I will always remember how she made such a difficult night bearable for me with her kindness.
